When a Referral is Needed

  • Serious Fractures leading to instability
  • Acute neurological compromise (i.e from a large herniated disc) involving paralysis, bowel/ bladder dysfunction, or worsening motor/ sensory impairments
  • Malignancy
  • Infection
  • Severe, progressive chronic pain (i.e., from a specific, known spine abnormality that does not get better with conservative treatment)
